HOSCHTON -- Residents and businesses in Hoschton lost power when a driver hit a telephone pole on Ga. 53. The incident closed both lanes of Ga. 53 around 1:15 p.m.

Georgia Power crews are working to fix the damage and restore power.

Authorities reopened one lane this afternoon.

Hoschton police were responding to a call about a reckless driver when the woman hit a telephone pole across the street from Robert's Plumbing and the Hoschton Animal Hospital.

"She was driving erratically and ... hit the pole before anyone could get to her," said Braselton Police Chief Terry Esco.

There were no passengers in the car.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Hoschton police, Braselton police, Georgia State Patrol and the West Jackson Fire Department all responded to the scene.
