Georgia DOT announces a detour will close the Ga. Highway 284/Clarks Bridge Road Bridge over Lake Lanier for a maximum of 10 days beginning Monday.

Crews will finish building the new roadway, tying it into the new bridge and shift traffic onto the new bridge. Signs announcing the detour are in place along the roadway.

No through traffic will be allowed to use the bridge on Ga. 284/Clarks Bridge Road over Lake Lanier at the Olympic Venue in Gainesville through June 25.

To access the parking and boat ramps, vehicles must come from Ga. 284 southbound or from Clermont.

No access will be available to the parking area or boat ramps from Ga. 284 northbound from Gainesville.

This $8.7 million construction project will build a new bridge for Ga. 284 over the Chattahoochee River portion of Lake Lanier at the Lake Lanier Olympic Center. The new bridge will have 12-feet wide lanes and 8-feet wide bikeable shoulder in each direction. The project also builds a new pedestrian tunnel under Ga. 284. The project completion date is Dec. 31.
The existing bridge was built in 1958 and does not meet current design standards.
