Four local organizations are partnering to offer free tax preparation for individuals and households making less than $55,000 a year in Hall and surrounding counties.

The service will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4-6:30 p.m. on three Tuesdays: March 7, March 14 and March 21.

Follow-up quality reviews will be offered on three Fridays: March 10, March 17 and March 24.

Those interested can call 706-353-6647 to make an appointment at the Gainesville Housing Authority at 750 Pearl Nix Parkway in Gainesville.

Action Ministries is partnering with the Housing Authority, Peach State Bank and HallCo Credit Union to offer the services through the volunteer income tax assistance program.

“Our goal is to continue educating our community in basic financial principles through existing programs and then to offer no-cost, accurate tax returns through VITA,” said Tina Grubbs, regional director for Action Ministries, in a press release.  “A correctly filed tax return with a responsible financial plan could be the catalyst for a family to start clawing their way out of poverty.”

IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to those qualified.
