Free bra fittings at Belk to benefit breast cancer research

The Belk store at Lakeshore Mall in Gainesville will provide free bra fittings Sept. 30 to support Susan G. Komen, the world’s largest nonprofit funder of breast cancer research.

Fittings will be held as part of “Fit for the Cure” from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 30. Appointments can be made by calling 770-532-7021, ext. 287.

Belk and Wacoal, a manufacturer of women’s underwear and lingerie, are partnering to offer the fittings and donate $4 to Susan G. Komen for every fitting. If a woman also buys a bra or shapewear piece, the businesses will increase the donation to $8. The more bras and shapewear purchased, the greater the donation will be.

Fit for the Cure began 16 years ago, and to date, Wacoal has donated $4.5 million to Susan G. Komen through the events. Belk began matching Wacoal’s donation in 2011 and has donated more than $200,000 through the program.

Research shows that 8 in 10 women are wearing the wrong-sized bra, and a news release said “a properly fitted bra is crucial to your health and well-being.”

An average bra fitting takes about 15 minutes, and no purchase is required.
