Ga. 13/Atlanta Highway in South Hall is now open to four lanes of travel — two lanes in each direction — between Frontage Road and Blackshear Place Baptist Church.

Crews opened the road at 12:30 p.m.

The road is a vital link to such destinations as Johnson High School, the Hall County Library System’s Blackshear Place branch, Gainesville State College and Lanier Technical College.

Crews will continue working on Atlanta Highway overnights to finish paving and striping, with work taking place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays.

The work is part of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s $75 million reworking of Interstate 985 at Exit 16, a project that included widening area roads and adding a new interchange, Exit 17, at Atlanta Highway.

Officials have said they expect the entire project to wrap up by Labor Day.

Remaining work includes shifting southbound I-985 traffic back to its original location and opening an entrance ramp from Atlanta Highway to I-985 south.
