A fire did an estimated $75,000 in damage to a home on Cannon Creek Trail in Gainesville, according to Hall County Fire Services.

Firefighters responded about 6:30 p.m. to a house fire in the 4000 block of Cannon Creek Trail. Upon arrival firefighters found a 3,5000square-foot structure with heavy smoke conditions showing from the attic, Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said.

Firefighters made an interior attack and contained the fire damage to the attic area. The upstairs living area sustained significant smoke damage, and both levels had water damage.

Some of the occupants were at home at the time of the fire, but no one was injured, he said.

The fire started on the exterior of the home in some trash cans, which Cagle said was an accidental cause, and extended up the wall and into the attic. Firefighters also covered the occupants' belongings with plastic tarps to minimize the damage, Cagle said.
