The expansion of pre-kindergarten to all six elementary schools in the Gainesville City School System this fall has driven more demand than there is space available at most schools.
As a result, Fair Street International Academy will add a second pre-K class this fall.
Previously, New Holland and Mundy Mill were the only sites in the school system that offered pre-K. The system this year decided to offer classes at each school, though the total number of classes remains at 10.
Superintendent Jeremy Williams said each pre-K class at Fair Street can accommodate up to 22 students.
There are 26 students on a waiting list for pre-K at Fair Street, he added.
“We’re excited about adding a new pre-K,” Principal Gwenell Brown said.
