Many Gainesville voters will do something in November they’ve likely never done in their lives — vote for mayor. The Gainesville City Council will add the elected mayor position to a council of five people representing five wards, for a total of six on the council. Previously one of the five council members has served as mayor, with the position elected by the council and rotating every two years.
