Elderly can apply for help with heat

Starting Monday, those who are elderly or homebound can get help paying heating costs through Ninth District Opportunity.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program will open on Monday to households in which every member is at least 65 years of age or bedridden due to health conditions. Those who meet the criteria and are interested in applying for this program can sign up in person from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the Army Reserve Center at 570 Shallowford Road in Gainesville or by calling 770-534-8826 beginning at 9 a.m. Monday.

Applicants will be required to present verification of age for everyone in the home, verification of household income in the past 30 days, verification of Social Security numbers and the most recent home heating bill.
