Riverside Military Academy has named Cathy Moore as its new academic dean.
Moore, who has more than 30 years experience in higher education, will assume her new leadership role in January 2020.
“I appreciate the fact that Riverside Military Academy provides young men with the opportunity to combine their academic education with learning leadership skills,” Moore said in a statement. “The fact that cadets must function collaboratively with one another uniquely trains them as valuable 21st century leaders.”
Moore recently retired from Georgia Gwinnett College, having served for 13 years as the college’s first School of Education dean. During that time she helped develop academic programs to better prepare teachers for middle and high school careers.
Georgia Gwinnett College recently recognized Moore’s achievement and named a scholarship fund after her, which was established by the Peach State Federal Credit Union.
Before joining Georgia Gwinnett College, Moore served as the chair of graduate programs at Brenau University's School of Education. She established new masters teaching degree programs for middle and high school teachers.
Moore has a doctorate and master's in child and family development from the University of Georgia, and a bachelor’s in psychology from Georgia Southern College.
She is an advocate for dual enrollment and supports Riverside’s new partnerships with Brenau University and Truett McConnell University.
“I am well-versed in dual enrollment and the opportunities it offers the student ready for the challenge of college courses while still in high school,” Moore said in a statement.
Col. Robert Cagle, Riverside’s interim dean, will resume his teaching career once Moore begins her job in January.
