A Dollar General employee is accused of taking more than $5,000 from the store’s safe, according to authorities.

Employees of the Lula Road store in Lula found $5,570.83 missing Sunday, Oct. 21, from the safe and called 911.

Within hours, investigators had identified Amanda Potts Perkins, 25, of Alto, as the suspect.

Lt. Scott Ware said the investigators believe Perkins took the money from the store Sunday morning.

She was taken into custody the same day and booked in to the Hall County Jail that afternoon. Hall County Magistrate Court officials said Perkins bonded out and requested a public defender.

The public defender’s office, however, said she had not yet been assigned to an attorney.

An attempt to reach Perkins for comment was unsuccessful.

“Investigators recovered roughly half of the money which she had stolen,” Ware wrote in a news release.

Perkins was charged with second-degree burglary, and the case is still under investigation.

A representative from the Dollar General declined to comment and deferred questions to another manager, who did not return a request for comment from The Times.
