Artificial Christmas trees will come to life with personality at the Ninth Annual Deck the Hall event Thursday at the Gainesville Civic Center.

The Hall County Board of Realtors auctions off a variety of themed trees decked out with Georgia Bulldog ornaments to heavenly porcelain angels.

“They’re fully decorated, and they’re absolutely beautiful,” said Carolyn Gibson, an associate broker with Jack Waldrip Real Estate.

Gibson said proceeds from the Christmas tree sale and silent auction benefit Tadmore Elementary School and Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASA are community volunteers who guide an abused or neglected child through the legal system to a safe outcome. CASA serves children in Hall and Dawson counties.

Tadmore Elementary School Principal Robin Gower said the school used the donated funds to purchase art supplies and books and to facilitate teacher recognition programs. During the 2007-08 school year, 90 percent of Tadmore students received free or reduced lunches, according to the state Department of Education.

Gower said most of Tadmore’s portion of the proceeds support the school’s reading program.

“With schools, we really want to support the community,” she said. “But it’s a really good feeling to have the community supporting you.”
