The Summit Street church kicked off the Advent season with the concert that featured a handful of different musical groups.

An eight-member band was lead by minister of music Garrick Ginyard.

A youth choir and a number of members from the church’s five choir groups also performed.

The concert also included prayer and scripture readings.

The performance featured traditional holiday songs such as "Silent Night" and less-known songs such as "He Has Come" and "Holy Lamb of God."

While most of the songs were performed by the combined choir, the youth choir also sang.

Peggy Brown of Gainesville was one of the attendees. As a member of the church, she comes to the event every year to enjoy the Christmas carols and gospel songs, she said.

However, the event is not just for church members. Weeks before the concert, invitations are sent to other local churches.

About 100 people were in attendance Sunday.

The concert ended with a blessing from the Rev. Dr. Marcus E. Dixon.
