Dahlonega man killed in Friday morning wreck

A Dahlonega man was partially ejected from his car and killed at the scene of a Friday morning wreck in Dahlonega, according to authorities.

Joseph Angelo Chiero, 56, was driving a Hyundai Sonata after 5 a.m. Friday southbound on Ga. 9/Morrison Moore Parkway near Pink Dogwood Lane. At the same time, Margaret Elizabeth Riches, 26, of Dahlonega was headed northbound on Ga. 9 in a Toyota Camry.

“For reasons unknown at this time, the Camry crossed into the southbound lane and struck the Sonata head on,” Georgia State Patrol Cumming post commander Curtis Bradshaw wrote in an email.

Chiero’s Sonata overturned on its left side.

Bradshaw said Chiero was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another car driven by Brandon Roscoe Nix, 36, of Dahlonega, struck multiple pieces of the crash debris, but Nix was uninjured.

Riches was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Bradshaw said she was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain lane.
