Two people were killed in a wreck along Interstate 985 early Friday when their vehicle left the road and struck a tree, according to Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Anthony Coleman.

The driver, Quentian Jesse Nixon, 28, of Jacksonville, Fla., was killed. Also killed was the front seat passenger, another 28-year-old male whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of the family.

A back seat passenger, Lakeisha Young, 22, of Gainesville sustained serious injuries and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The wreck occurred at 5:10 a.m. near the Friendship Road exit, Coleman said. He said neither of the deceased were wearing seat belts and were entrapped in the vehicle.

Coleman said the single vehicle crash occurred when the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta that Nixon was driving southbound “failed to maintain its lane of travel.”

Coleman said the cause of the wreck was unknown and pending following completion of the investigation.
