County approves funding for North Hall park

The Hall County Board of Commissioners approved funding for the North Hall park project on Nopone Road at its Thursday board meeting. The county will use certificates of participation to cover the costs.

The project includes a park and a combination library and community center.

The city of Clermont is contesting the county building a library at that North Hall site because city officials say they were promised the library would be built in Clermont.

Because of a temporary injunction against the county that prohibits construction on the library and community center, the county's action Thursday did not include financing for the structure, only the park area.

Hall County commissioners Bobby Banks and Ashley Bell both voted against the item.

"I voted against it because I feel like we were being hasteful in taking action," Bell said. "We didn't give Clermont the chance to respond to our plans, and I feel uncomfortable moving forward without assurances that this won't create further legal issues."

In other action, the commission approved the Georgia Department of Transportation's framework agreement for the widening of Spout Springs Road and also approved establishing minimum standards for manufactured homes being moved into the county.
