Chimney blaze destroys Winder Highway home

A chimney fire late Sunday ended up destroying a South Hall home.

Hall County firefighters responded at 10:45 p.m. to the house in the 5400 block of Winder Highway near the Jackson County line after getting a call from the homeowner saying his home was on fire.

Units had trouble getting to the driveway because of a locked gate, Chief David Kimbrell said.

Also, because of a narrow driveway and lack of hydrants in the immediate area, a water shuttle was set up using Hall and West Jackson and Jackson Trail fire department tankers, he added.

When firefighters arrived at the 2,500-square-foot home, they found that entire attic was engulfed in fire.

Eventually, the fire consumed the roof and collapsed into the home, Kimbrell said.

No one was injured in the incident.
