A water main break in the Chestatee neighborhood Thursday evening, which led to the Hall County School District canceling Friday classes, has been resolved.
According to city officials, repairs were finished at 2 a.m. Friday. About 25 residences in the area, including Chestatee High School, Chestatee Academy and Sardis Enrichment School, were without water from around 7:30 p.m. until 1 a.m.
“Our district plumbers were in buildings flushing lines and by 9 a.m. (Friday) we were on line and ready to go,” Hall Superintendent Will Schofield said.
School was canceled due to the uncertainty of when the break could be fixed, combined with a concern over roads that may still have been icy from Tuesday’s winter weather.
“If (the break) is along at a junction, the job becomes much more extensive and requires significantly more excavation, time and splicing of pipes,” Schofield explained. “My report was that this break was along a straight portion of the main line.”
