A Gainesville woman accused of binding her 16-month-old boy in cellophane had her case moved on to Superior Court with a heftier charge.

Grace An, 18, appeared in Magistrate Court Monday to answer charges of first-degree child cruelty, reckless conduct and false imprisonment. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office arrested An Nov. 11 and charged her with putting the boy bound in cellophane in the back of her car.

An attempt to reach An’s attorney David Hoffer for comment was unsuccessful.

According to Magistrate Court officials, An’s case moved on to Superior Court with the reckless conduct charge changed to aggravated assault.

A locksmith came to Ahaluna Drive around 6:45 p.m. Nov. 11 to a woman claiming she had locked herself out of a vehicle.

“I unlocked the door and reached in to get her keys, and I heard a baby crying,” locksmith Volley Collins previously told The Times. “I took my flashlight, and there was a little baby lying in the floorboard in the back.”

The child’s mouth, hands and feet were wrapped in cellophane and packing tape.

Deputies arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.

The boy was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was treated and released to the care of the Division of Family and Children Services.
