A Wells Fargo location for walk-in customers closed in 2017. Now, the nearby drive-thru that included an ATM is closing, too.

The drive-thru at 511 Race St., between Jesse Jewell Parkway and College Avenue, is closing at noon March 4.

“We continue to evaluate our branch network and base our distribution strategy on customer trends, market factors and economic changes,” Wells Fargo spokesman Jacob Jordan said in an email, explaining the closure. “We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this closure.”

Wells Fargo sent a letter to customers in November explaining the change and encouraging them to visit nearby branches on Jesse Jewell Parkway, Browns Bridge Road and Thompson Bridge Road.

Wells Fargo once maintained a branch across from the drive-thru in a seven-story building at 340 Jesse Jewell Parkway, off E.E. Butler Parkway.

The company closed the branch, which also had an ATM, on May 19, opening a new branch off Jesse Jewell Parkway in New Holland on May 22.

“We will continue to have a strong distribution network with several branch locations and ATMs throughout the Gainesville area,” Wells Fargo spokeswoman Amy Amirault said at the time.
