Wilheit joins Georgia Cancer Coalition Board

Philip Wilheit, president and managing partner of Wilheit Packaging, has been named to the board of trustees of the Georgia Cancer Coalition. The board provides governance, strategic direction and fiscal oversight for the coalition, whose mission is to reduce the number of cancer deaths in the state by accelerating cancer prevention, detection, treatment and research.

Wilheit is active in civic affairs. On the state level, he served as chairman of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce in 2001 and currently serves on the boards of the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Commission for a New Georgia. Locally, he has served as chairman of the Gainesville/Hall Development Authority for the last 30 years as is past chairman of the board of the Gainesville Bank and Trust and the former GBT Bancshares. He has served on the Northeast Georgia Health System board for 20 years, and is currently chairman emeritus.

"We are privileged to have Philip Wilheit as a new board member. He brings to the table a great deal of expertise and a sincere interest in the well-being of his community and the state of Georgia," says William J. Todd, president and CEO, Georgia Cancer Coalition.

"Like everyone I know, cancer has touched my family: my father died of pancreatic cancer in 1990, only three months after being diagnosed," said Wilheit. "I want to be involved in growing oncology services in our area and our state to the scale and capability that we need and deserve."

Hicks named investment VP at Wachovia Securities

Wachovia Securities, a national brokerage firm based in St. Louis, has announced that William E. Hicks Jr. has been named vice president for investments. Hicks is a certified financial planner and financial advisor in the firm’s Gainesville office.

A graduate of The University of Georgia, he has been a financial advisor for 11 years. He joined
Wachovia Securities in 1996.

Benton joins Norton Agency as commercial agent

The Norton Agency Commercial Group has announced that Eddie Benton has joined its commercial/acreage sales team and will be based out of the Banks County office. Benton will focus on commercial property in Hall, Banks, Jackson, Clarke and Oconee counties.

Slack joins medical practice of Lanier Interventional Pain

P. Tennent Slack, M.D., a Gainesville native, has joined Dr. John Givogre at Lanier Interventional Pain, a Gainesville medical practice.

Slack is a graduate of the Emory University School of Medicine where he completed his residency in anesthesiology in 1993. He became a board certified anesthesiologist in 1994.

He completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education fellowship in pain medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in 2008.

Satterfield receives Jack Phelan Award

Edward Jones Financial Advisor Reneigh Satterfield of Gainesville has received the Jack Phelan Award for her sales and service efforts over the past year.

Only 3,386 of the firm’s more than 10,000 financial advisors received the Jack Phelan award.

"When you work for a firm that is known for its outstanding service," Satterfield said, "it’s quite an honor to be singled out for your service record."

Norman named store manager for Maurices

Maurices, a specialty store at Lakeshore Mall, has named Latoya Norman as store manager. Norman is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the store, including sales performance, visual presentation, and personnel recruitment and training.

Established in 1931, Maurices is wholly owned by Dressbarn Inc. The store specializes in fashions for young women. The company operates more than 600 stores in 43 states.
