The unemployment rate in the metro Gainesville area rose slightly to 3.6 percent in September, according to figures provided by the Georgia Department of Labor.
Gainesville’s jobless rate rose one-tenth of a percent from 3.5 percent in August. Still, the number of jobs in the area rose 400, one-half of 1 percent, to 76,400.
Gainesville’s jobless rate remains a full percentage point behind the state’s 4.6 percent figure. That number is up from 4.5 percent in August.
The unemployment rate in the Northeast Georgia region rose by the same percentage, up from 3.8 percent to 3.9 percent from August to September.
Stateside, some 6,048 more Georgians joined the unemployment rolls, while 23,182 more job seekers entered the work force. The state lost 800 payroll jobs during that one-month span.
