Gainesville SBDC offering a pair of small-business courses

Two small-business classes will be offered this month by the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center at The Featherbone Center, 999 Chestnut St., Gainesville. Pre-registration is requested for both.

"Starting a Business: The Basics" is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. Wednesday. The free session will discuss topics that include market research, legal structure, startup and cash flow estimates, financing alternatives, failure factors and business planning. Class materials include the manual, "How to Start Your Own Business."

"Starting a Business: Planning & Financing" is set for 5-8 p.m. Oct. 20. The fee is $69 per person. The course will walk participants through the actual development process of creating a marketing strategy, including research, startup cost estimates, managing cash flow, financing alternatives, choosing legal forms, permitting and licensing and risk management. Class materials include the text, "Mastering Loan Proposals."
