Brenau University’s Sandra Leslie, dean of the College of Education, was recently appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal to the Professional Standards Commission.

The commission is responsible for ensuring certified and classified teachers and staff are prepared to teach and work in state classrooms, according to its website.

Leslie also currently serves on the Boys & Girls Club of Hall County’s board of directors, the advisory council for Vision 2030 at the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce and the Northeast Georgia Dean’s Association.

Leslie was named dean of the College of Education in 2012. In the position, she oversees undergraduate and graduate programs for teachers and school administrators.

For six years prior to joining Brenau, Leslie served as professor, chair and dean in Shorter University’s School of Education in Rome. That followed eight years as an associate professor and director of secondary education at Belmont Abbey College in Charlotte, N.C.
