Ala Harbin tells of her days as a youth spent at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County Wednesday afternoon during a gathering of board members, staff and community members for a special announcement at the the Joseph F. Walters Boys & Girls Club. The Clubs announced an expansion of its scope and a name change to Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier.
Ala Harbin had not yet started kindergarten when she was drawn to the fun and games that attracted other neighborhood children to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County. Now at age 28, and with a little girl of her own, Harbin shared what the after-school program meant to her during a ceremony Wednesday marking the organization expanding its scope beyond Hall and changing its name from The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier. “I came from a home that didn’t have anything,” she said.
