Golfers at Lanier Islands in South Hall County discovered a body in Lake Lanier off one of the fairways around 10:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7.
The victim was identified by Hall County Sheriff’s Office Investigators as Tonja Hall, 53, of McDonough. Family members were notified Friday afternoon, according to Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth.
Her body was discovered in the water near a golf course fairway at Lake Lanier Islands.
There was no indication of foul play, Booth said, though the investigation continues pending autopsy results.
“Investigators found the woman’s car parked in the same area the body was found,” Booth wrote in a news release. “Some of her belongings, including identification and phone, remained in the vehicle.”
The golfers found the body near Legacy and Villa Lanes off of a course fairway.
A resort employee saw the woman’s car “as early as 6 a.m. Friday,” Booth said, and investigators believe the woman’s body was not in the water long.
