The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to hold a lottery Wednesday morning to determine the order of reviewing requests for Lake Lanier dock permits.
The lottery will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be shown live at http://www.lakelaniersupl.com and http://lanier.sam.usace.army.mil. It also will be shown by video feed at the Spring Hill Suites Hotel across from the Mall of Georgia in Buford.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which has 277 applicants for 174 remaining permits, had stopped issuing permits for two years because of the drought.
When the drought ended and as lake levels began rising, the corps chose to close out the dock permits through the random drawing and opened a 90-day submission period for requests.
The corps’ management plan and an accompanying Environmental Impact Statement completed in 2004 set the limit of boat docks available on the lake at 10,615.
