Blaze damages building across from hospital

Gainesville firefighters battled a blaze Sunday at a 3,000-square-foot vacant commercial building in the 300 block of Downey Boulevard.

The building is across from Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s North Tower.

No one was injured, but  the building has been gutted, Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough said.

The fire was reported about 3:15 p.m.

Officials are trying the determine the cause of the fire and estimated cost of damage.
