Postal inspectors, police investigating Oakwood USPS blue box tampering

A blue United States Postal Service collection box at the Oakwood post office was tampered with, and police said they are unsure what if anything may be missing.

Oakwood Police Investigator Todd Templeton said the department received a report from a citizen finding the box unsecured March 15.

“It appeared as if it could have been forced open,” Templeton wrote in an email.

USPS postal inspector/public information officer Kemie Green said the tampering occurred in the early afternoon to late evening of March 15.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call their local police department or the postal inspectors at 877-876-2455.

Customers who feel they have been a victim of mail theft from the tampering should contact the postal inspectors and file a report with their local police department.

“We are encouraging customers to deposit outgoing mail into blue collection boxes before the final pick up of the same day of deposit. Check the pickup schedule times posted on the box to ensure your mail will not sit in the box overnight or over the weekend,” Green wrote in an email.
