Authorities: UPS driver didn't leave enough room for train after crossing tracks, stopping in Flowery Branch

Update, Feb. 17: Korey Brown, 30, of Hall County crossed over the railroad tracks in his UPS box truck and stopped for the traffic light, waiting to turn left onto Atlanta Highway around 11:25 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from Georgia State Patrol.

After crossing over the tracks, the rear of his truck was still in the path of an approaching southbound Norfolk Southern cargo train.

The train struck the left rear side of Brown’s truck while he was still inside.

There were no injuries.

Brown was cited for failing to ensure there was sufficient space to clear the railroad crossing.


Previous story: A train collided with a UPS truck in Flowery Branch on Saturday, Feb. 15, according to the Flowery Branch Police Department. 

There were no injuries.

Hall County Fire Services responded to the intersection at Lights Ferry Road and Atlanta Highway Saturday afternoon.

The intersection was shut down while the incident was investigated, according to a Facebook post from the police. Additional information from police was not available Saturday.
