About $9,000 was raised Sunday afternoon in a benefit concert for Jimmy Cutrell, a musician and music instructor suffering from a disabling spinal condition, said Elena Trear, who helped organize the event.

Area musicians, including many of Cutrell’s students, performed at Brenau University’s Pearce Auditorium.

Cutrell suffers from spinal stenosis, or narrowing of the spine, a condition that was diagnosed after he fell last year, resulting in paralysis from just below the neck down.

He taught at Preparatory Music Inc. at Brenau.

The concert had no admission fee, but organizers accepted donations. Also, a plate was passed during intermission.

Trear said further donations can be sent to Wachovia Bank, in care of Frances Hemrick, 1324 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30501. Checks can be made out to Jimmy Cutrell.
