2014 proves positive for area economic development

Growth in retail, housing permits and jobs marked a turnaround for the local economy in 2014, according to a year-in-review report issued Monday by the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce. A new Kroger grocery store at New Holland, redevelopment at the Lakeshore Mall and new Wal-Mart grocery stores in Gainesville paved the way in the retail sector. Meanwhile, the city of Gainesville issued the most permits for new home construction in a single year in 2014.
