The two victims of a fatal Saturday wreck in Gwinnett County have been identified as Gainesville residents Ramon Gonzalez, 16, and Yudel Jarquin, 21, Gwinnett police confirmed Monday.
Gonzalez was a student at Gainesville High School. Jarquin was a line worker at Cargill.
The two-vehicle accident occurred just before 2 p.m. on Interstate 985 near the Interstate 85 split.
Gonzalez and Jarquin were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center and pronounced dead Saturday. The victims were in the same vehicle.
Gainesville City Schools Superintendent Wanda Creel said Gonzalez has siblings in the school system, and that the system will provide its resources to help “with any need possible.”
“We join the family and grieve for the family,” she said.
Funeral services for both victims will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home in Flowery Branch. A visitation will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Thursday before the service.
The driver of the second vehicle was also injured and transported to the hospital.
The accident backed up traffic on I-85 south into Gwinnett County for close to two hours.
Gwinnett police said more information is not currently available.
