1 cup grits

2 teaspoons salt

4 cups boiling water

1/2 cup butter

1 cup grated cheddar cheese, divided in half

1 cup milk

4 eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Freshly ground black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, optional

Add grits to the boiling, salted water and cook until very thick, at least 40 minutes.
