Each Wednesday through Easter, local churches are holding community Lent services. The services are held at a different church each week with a different local guest preacher.

The services will be about an hour each at noon with a lunch to follow.

"It's important for the church to go outside of our original faith traditions," said the Rev. Carrie Veal, children's minister at First Baptist Church of Gainesville. "When we come together, we put aside our faith traditions. We can see we all have one savior."

"It reminds us ... it is a separate time and we are preparing for Easter."

Wednesday will be the third installment of the Lent services and the Rev. David McDonald will present a message at First Baptist Church. The last service will be on Good Friday.
