He's only 4, but Matthew Price has already learned some good gardening skills from his grandfather, Richard Coleman, who started gardening to get into better shape. Matthew helps lug water all over the yard, he makes a compost pile from all sorts of yard and kitchen scraps and he grew these pumpkins, along with watermelons, as his own project.
What he grew: "Just a giant pumpkin from the farmers market in Atlanta," said Matthew's mom, Melissa Jordan.
Why he decided to grow it: "'Cause Papa got the seeds," said Matthew's grandmother, Linda Coleman. She added that Matthew "likes to work out here with Papa."
Does it require any special care: "You wait, and it grows," Matthew said. He waters the pumpkins himself and tends to the compost pile, Coleman added.
How the pumpkins will be used: "I'll keep 'em down here," Matthew said, but Coleman reminded him that he'll probably carve them for jack-o'-lanterns.
Would he grow it again: "Yes," Matthew said, shaking his head. "And I can grow some more."
