For the first time, the Dawson Reindeer Run 5K and Walk will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday and the run will begin at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame then race through the streets of Dawsonville all to benefit the Ric Rack Food Bank.

Online registration is closed for the event but runners can show up at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and register.

"We have about 160 runners signed up and hope to have about 200 people registered by the race," said event organizer Lowell Star. "We're going to start basically at Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, which shares a parking lot with Food Lion parking lot and run through downtown Dawsonville. We have a live band coming out to play from Music Matters."

At 10:15 a.m., awards will be presented at the awards ceremony. Each runner will get a T-shirt and goodie bag.

Starr owns Five Star NTP, a company that puts together sporting events, and thought that it would be a great community event to set up the race to benefit the "general need" at Ric Rack Food Bank.

The race costs $20 plus three canned good items or a $5 donation.
