Reagan Britt, seventh-grader at North Hall Middle School, holds her award.

Reagan Britt, a seventh-grader at North Hall Middle School, was named the Hall County winner of the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District’s 2014 Water Essay Contest.

The contest challenges middle school students to think critically about water and the region’s water resources. This year’s contest focused on the importance of water quality and quantity. Students were asked to explain why how much water we have and how clean it is are equally important.

More than 1,900 students submitted essays.

“This was a hard topic to properly answer with less than 500 words. It was fun to see how students took different approaches,” said Kostoula Vallianos, senior education program specialist with the district.

An awards reception was held Dec. 4 in the South Wing of the state Capitol. Each county winner received a $100 prize. The district winner received an additional $400 prize.
