The Col. William Candler chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently held a luncheon at the Chattahoochee Country Club in honor of state regent Barbara Blakely Chastain, who was also the guest speaker. Guests included a vice president general from the national DAR, two state DAR officers and five chapter regents from Young Harris, Watkinsville, Toccoa, Clarkesville and Dahlonega. Also, three past chapter regents were recognized for their years of service to DAR: Helen Martin, Margery Long and Bea Fischer.

W. Hunter Leming, son of Chuck and Vicky Leming, has obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. Leming is from Gainesville Troop 221 and Bill Sharry is his Scoutmaster. For his eagle project, Hunter built an outdoor classroom for McEver Elementary School. Leming also is involved with the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scout honor society, and has held both chapter and lodge positions. He also participated in one of the largest volunteer projects held in the United States, ArrowCorps5, where he was an assistant squad leader.
