A total of 500 jazzercisers from the Jazzercise Fitness Center of Gainesville, Jazzercise of Braselton and from all over North Georgia raised funds for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at the 10th annual Jazzercise benefit dance-fitness class Feb. 12 at the Ritz-Carlton in Buckhead. Jazzercise owner/instructor Colleen Manji said the event raised $186,000. Special guest instructor was hip-hop dance teacher Tim Roberts. The workout program offers a fusion of Latin dance, hip-hop dance, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing that improve cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility. Good News Clinics was named recently as one of the first "Partner Up! for Public Health Heroes" as part of a new recognition program sponsored by the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Partner Up! for Public Health Campaign.

The joint DPH/Partner Up! for Public Health program is aimed at recognizing Georgia organizations and individuals who make important contributions to the health of their communities. Gainesville’s Good News Clinics was selected for its long-standing history of providing free medical care to poor and uninsured residents of Hall County. The other inaugural honorees were former Mayor Otis Johnson of Savannah and the Decatur Farm to School Initiative.

Good News Clinics is a free medical and dental clinic in Gainesville. GNC is staffed by a dedicated group of volunteer physicians and dentists as well as numerous other health professionals. It also operates a free pharmacy.

In 2011, the medical clinic provided over 10,000 patient visits to poor and uninsured residents of Hall County. The dental clinic provided more than 6,700 patient visits and the pharmacy filled over 57,000 prescriptions. In addition, Northeast Georgia Medical Center serves as an integral partner with GNC, providing in-patient and out-patient care for GNC patients, also at no cost.

"Good News Clinics was selected as a Partner Up! for Public Health Hero for two reasons," said campaign manager Charles Hayslett. "One, of course, is that they’ve made such huge contributions to the health of so many people in Gainesville and Hall County. The second is that they’ve literally written the book on how you organize and sustain a free clinic like this, and make it a win for everybody involved. They’ve set the standard not just for Georgia, but nationally."

GNC began serving the uninsured of Hall County in 1993.
