Each year, local high school seniors enter Elks Lodge No. 1126’s most valuable male and female student competition.
The winners are Joshua Robinson from Gainesville High School and Mary Chen of Lanier High School. Applicants are judged on scholarship, including standardized test scores, leadership and financial need.
Robinson started a Robotics Club at school and mentored local elementary school students in robotics hoping to stimulate their interest in science. He will attend the University of North Georgia this fall and plans to continue his study of robotics at Georgia Tech.
Chen is an honor graduate, a member of the National Honor Society and was Lanier High’s STAR Student 2012-13. She will attend Georgia Tech, major in political science and plans government work after graduation.
