The Holbrook of Lake Lanier Independent Living community hosted Paws for a Cause in partnership with Humane Society recently with a fashion show featuring animals from the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, a silent auction, followed by a luncheon.
Holbrook residents participated in the fashion show, strutting down the runaway with small dogs in tow. Both members of the community and business community attended the event and luncheon, including staff members for Brenau University and members of the senior services industry. Executive Director David Arias of Humane Society of Northeast Georgia was a featured guest speaker. The event was designed to educate and promote health benefits of owning pets.
“We know there’s a wealth of medical research that has shown animals can reduce stress levels, and improve overall wellness in humans,” said Derin White, community relations director for The Holbrook. “We use pet therapy in our community, because it has been documented to promote healing, both physically and emotionally. We’ve seen the positive impact animals have on people, especially senior adults.”
More than $1,500 was raised during Paws for a Cause. All proceeds benefitted the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia.
