Hall, Gainesville schools to hold remote learning day Thursday, as Hurricane Zeta bears down on Gulf Coast
The Gainesville City School System will not hold in-person classes on Thursday, Oct. 29, as Hall County prepares strong winds and heavy rain expected from Hurricane Zeta. Class is still in session but will be hosted virtually, the school system says.

Cathy and Darryll Martin of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter, Allyson Leigh Martin to Michael Edwin George, son of Raymond E. George and the late Sharon Shugart George of Cleveland.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Ray and Doris Poore of Gillsville, and Harold and Evelyn Martin of Gainesville.

She is a 2004 graduate of Chestatee High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2008 from North Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in middle grades education, in 2010 with a master’s degree in education, and in 2014 with education specialist from Brenau University in Gainesville. She is employed as an eighth-grade science teacher at Hall County Board of Education in Gainesville.

The groom-elect is the grandson of John and Clara Shugart of Calhoun, and Edwin D. and Allyne Burns George of Indian Trail, NC.

He is a 2005 graduate of Chestatee High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2009 from Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and in 2012 with a law degree from Mercer University in Macon. He is employed as assistant solicitor general at Hall County Solicitor’s Office in Gainesville.

The couple plan to wed April 1, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
