Jeff and Anita Bagley of Cumming announce the engagement of their daughter Ashton Wynette Bagley to Alexander Terry Merck, son of J. Terry and Rebecca Merck of Murrayville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Doyle and Hellon Ledbetter of Douglasville, and Bobby and Maurine Bagley of Cumming.

She is a 2008 graduate of South Forsyth High School in Cumming. She graduated in 2012 from the University of Georgia with a bachelor of arts degree in history. She was recently accepted into the Ph.D. history program at Duke University in Durham, N.C.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Shirley Merck of Gainesville and the late James L. Merck, the late Mary Morris, and the late Raymond Browning Sr.

He is a 2005 graduate of North Hall High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2010 from the University of Georgia with a bachelor of science degree in computer science. He is employed as an IT security specialist by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The couple plan to wed in April 2014, in Cumming.
