Ham radio operators from around the world will be on the same frequencies this weekend during the 2008 Field Day event.

The Lanierland Amateur Radio Club will participate in the annual ham radio Field Day, competing against ham radio clubs across the world.

The event will run from 2 p.m. on Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday and is open and free to the public. During the field day, amateur ham radio operators of varying license levels will try to make the most radio contacts possible. The radio operators will run equipment under simulated emergency conditions, using generators instead of electricity.

Activities Director Roger Gibson said members of the Lanierland Amateur Radio Club "do it more for fun that to compete."

The field day will be held at Jackson EMC Field Operations, 3704 Old Oakwood Road, Oakwood..
