Question: I know God is supposed to be all-powerful, but is there anything that God can’t do? — Mrs. S.F.
Answer: You’re right; God is all-powerful — something I’m afraid we often overlook today. Instead we assume God must be weak and unable to help us, and as a result we fail to turn to Him for the wisdom we need. Instead of depending on God, we think we must depend only on ourselves when problems arise.
But this isn’t true! If God was powerful enough to create the entire universe — from the vast reaches of outer space to the smallest sub-atomic particle — isn’t He also powerful enough to help us in our times of need? Why should we ever hesitate to turn to Him in faith and in prayer? The Bible says, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27).
There is one thing, however, that God cannot do — and that is do anything wrong. He is righteous and pure, and He can never betray His holy character. God cannot lie, and He cannot go back on His promises. Nor can God hate those whom He has promised to love, or act unjustly, or deal with us in an untrustworthy manner. The Bible says, “The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does” (Psalm 145:17).
If God were not this way, we’d have no reason to trust Him or put our lives into His hands. But He is trustworthy, and the proof is that He came down from Heaven in the person of Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. He loves us that much! And some day Christ will come again in power to destroy Satan and all his evil works. Is your faith and trust in Him?
