Gainesville sweeps cross country titles in Region 8-6A

The Gainesville High girls earned the top two spots and Johnny Nunez was third on the boys’ side as it swept first place in the Region 8-6A championship on Saturday at Apalachee High in Winder. 

Ashley Thompson (19 minutes, 5 seconds) and Ashley Sosa (19:32) earned the top two spots, respectively in the girls race. 

Also for the Lady Red Elephants, Avery Vlassis (20:57) was the fifth-place runner. 

Nunez (16:51) was joined in the top 10 from Gainesville with Donangelo Marshall (fifth place, 17:13) and John Jessup (seventh place, 17:18).

In Region 7-4A, Chestatee’s Luke Gaddis took third overall (16:23) at Marist. Flowery Branch’s Steve Faubert was fourth (16:35).

On the girls’ side, Flowery Branch’s Bella Brick was eighth overall (19:52).
