Gainesville falls to Lanier, 41-38, to decide second place in Region 8-6A

Gionni Williams rushed for four Gainesville touchdowns before giving up a double-digit, second-half lead and lost to Lanier 41-38 on Friday at City Park Stadium. 

Williams — who finished the night with 139 rushing yards and 133 passing yards — carried it in for a 9-yard run late in the third quarter. 

After Taj Barnes scored for the Longhorns on a 60-yard run early in the fourth quarter, Williams had his final score on a run from the 8. 

In the first half, Dez Brown ran it 73 yards for a Gainesville touchdown. Brown finished the game with 203 yards on the ground. 

Lanier quarterback Andrew Blackford paced its comeback with three long touchdown passes and 334 yards on the night. 

With the loss, Gainesville opens the postseason on the road against an opponent still to be determined on Friday. The Red Elephants are in the postseason for the 20th consecutive season.
