Jair Jurrjens surrendered four earned runs on a grand slam from Russ Canzler in the sixth inning and the Gwinnett Braves lost the first of a four-game series to the Columbus Clippers on Thursday at Coolray Field. Jurrjens allowed seven hits over 6 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out three. He nearly got out of the jam in the sixth, but a close 1-2 pitch was called a ball and Canzler capitalized on the next pitch.
