Gwinnett beats Norfolk, 4-0

The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Norfolk Tides 4-0 on Monday night in the last game of the season at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.

The G-Braves cruised behind the near no-hitter from starting pitcher Scott Diamond to win their third consecutive series.

Gwinnett (69-67) sits in second place in the International League South, but remains 6.5 games back of wild card leader Columbus with seven games left in the season.

Diamond threw a complete game shutout, surrendering two hits while striking out eight and walking one. The pitcher didn’t surrender his first hit until the top of the 8th inning.

At the plate, Barbaro Canizares finished the game 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Canizares also raised his league-leading batting average to .339.

Center fielder Nate McLouth had an RBI for the fourth time in five games while going 1-for-4 on the night.

Gwinnett will visit the Norfolk Tides for the first of a two game series at 7:15 Tuesday.
